Catch of the day #4: Foxygen – Alive! Alive!

In the middle of the summer of 2013, I made an exciting and riveting discovery. A discovery concerning the San Francisco psychedelic super duo Foxygen. Who are “Foxygen” exactly? Well, my dear child, you need only read the titles of the band’s two officially released albums: “Take the kids off Broadway” and “We are the 21^st century ambassadors of peace and magic” to get a potent whiff of the nature of their sorcerous sounds.

Catch of The Day #3: White Fang – Chill Yourself

Not sure how I found this one. I think I was trying to find interviews with the Mean Jeans. This will easily be the most polarizing piece of music I have posted to date. This song has the power, balls, and gumption to split apart century old treaties, or at least your relationship.

Every day, I hold a 2-3 hour prowl of the great youtube catacombs. I don’t always find what I’m looking for, but when I do, I get so excited I wish I could manifest the grooves into a huge flapping sea beast and take a picture of me holding it on my schooner. But I can’t. I can still call it a catch of the day though, and logistically, there isn’t too much of a difference.

Catch of the day #1: Sonny and the Sunsets – Green Blood

Found a beaut in the depths of Polyvinyl records’s youtube account. I was trying to find songs off that second Strange boys record, when the tantalizing title “green blood” revealed herself to me. I was expecting some sort of Jacuzzi boys/ Best coast crossover, and in a way I was right. “Sonny and the Sunsets” are what those crazy kids over at Japanther would have become if Kimya Dawson wasn’t in the Moldy Peaches. I was uncomfortable listening to this song until I started California dreamin’. Hummus was a satisfactory side dish as well.
